Hemorrhoids also called is rectal lump. Hemorrhoids are enlarged, painful veins in your rectum. Hemorrhoids are very common in both men and women. Adults have had to deal with the itching, bleeding and pain that often signal the presence of hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids may result from constipation, sitting for long periods of time, and anal infections. In some cases they may be caused by other diseases, such as liver cirrhosis . Hemorrhoids develop from 2 different places. There are 2 sets of veins that drain the blood from the lower rectum and anus. First place is internal veins can become swollen to form internal hemorrhoids. Internal hemorrhoids, unless they are severe, cannot be seen or felt, unlike external hemorrhoids and second place is external veins can swell to form external hemorrhoids. External hemorrhoids can be seen around the outside of the anus and, many times, can be felt. Most people think hemorrhoids are abnormal, they are present in everyone. It is only when the hemorrhoidal cushions enlarge that hemorrhoids can cause problems and be considered abnormal or a disease. Hemorrhoids are associated with constipation and straining at bowel movements as well as pregnancy . It is thought that these conditions lead to increased pressure in the hemorrhoid veins, thus causing them to swell. Liver disease can also cause increased pressure in the veins and also cause hemorrhoids.
Hemorrhoids prevalence peaks between 45 and 65 years of age. The most common symptoms of Hemorrhoids is fistulae, abscesses, or irritation and itching (pruritus ani) and painful bleeding. People whose parents had hemorrhoids may be more likely to get them. Pregnant women often get hemorrhoids because of the strain from carrying the baby and from giving birth. Symptoms of external hemorrhoids may include painful swelling or a hard lump around the anus that results when a blood clot forms. This condition is known as a thrombosed external hemorrhoid. In addition, excessive straining, rubbing, or cleaning around the anus may cause irritation with bleeding and/or itching, which may produce a vicious cycle of symptoms. Draining mucus may also cause itching. Medical treatment of hemorrhoids is aimed initially at relieving symptoms. Over-the-counter corticosteroid creams can reduce pain and swelling. Avoid toilet tissue with perfumes or colors. Drink more liquids and eat more leafy green vegetables, which will make stools bulkier and softer to relieve constipation. When thrombosis, pain, and tenderness occur, a 10 to 20 minute hot tub bath two to four times daily brings heat to the area, provides relief from the pain, and promotes healing. This is called a hot Sitz bath. Practice good personal hygiene. Keep the anal area clean and avoid using rough toilet paper.
